The clearings seem to last indefinitely, yet on occasion, a craving temporarily increases. I also have been re-setting weight point settings for some of my patient / clients. I will report on this as time passes. My theory is: our body mass registers a certain weight point. This weight point is maintained regardless of what we consciously desire. For example, you weigh 160 lbs and your 10th high school reunion is 3 months away. You decide consciously to diet and exercise in order to lose the weight you need to get to a size 7, [120lbs.], about what you were at graduation. You are marvelously successful, and are the spectacle of the party. After the event, you will eat accordingly, in order to maintain 160, because that is what your subconscious knows and holds onto. That is why there is a yo-yo effect to dieting. What you need to do is to re-set your thermostat!! I think that I have discovered how to do this. I'll keep you posted.

Dr. X
Itreat4you@yahoo.com

ALLERGIES/CRAVINGS:
N.A.E.T. [NAMBUDRIPAD’s ALLERGY ELIMINATION TECHNIQUE] & MY MODIFICATION

A friend of mine who practices Naturopathy [natural healing with supplements, herbs, homeopathics, aroma therapy, essential oils, and other natural methods] told me of a technique she uses to remove allergic responses by the mind – body. Dr. Nambudripad is a chiropractor & acupuncturist. She accidentally discovered that by holding an allergen in the left hand and stimulating some acupoints along the bladder and governing vessel meridians, up the back and along the spine, the mind-body association can be broken. Another practitioner, who was a Bowen classmate, told me of a similar technique. If you know what you are allergic to, hold that in your left hand and shine a red laser light on an allergy point at the apex of the right ear for 30 seconds. Continue holding the substance for 20 minutes then discard it and do not come in contact with it for 25 hours. I asked. “Why 25 hours”? My friend told me that there are 12 main meridians which have 2 hour cycles during the 24 hour day. You do not know which meridian is affected by the allergen, and if you come in contact with the substance while the affected meridian is processing it will make you sick in some way or another.

My first experience was with the latter technique. Monday mornings I always sneezed and had a runny nose upon arriving at my office. I guessed that I was allergic to a substance we use in our office. So, one Friday afternoon I held some of the substance on a piece of adhesive tape. After patients I did the treatment and drove home holding the tape which took exactly 20 minutes. When I went to the office Monday and Tuesday I was unaware of anything different, then on Wednesday it occurred to me that I had done the allergy treatment the previous Friday and, that I had no runny nose or sneezing so far that week. As I write this, I no longer have any Monday morning symptoms. My second experience was with my friend Jean, our local naturopath. She determined that I was allergic to eggs, and when she told me so I recalled that whenever I ate eggs [which I really enjoyed] I felt very sluggish and spaced out the rest of the day. After she did the N.A.E.T. clearing on me I have had no further symptoms after eating eggs. My third significant experience came from a self-treatment which turned out to be rather bazaar. I learned that I was allergic to sillymarin and rosemary, both of which were in my multiple vitamins. One afternoon I used the laser light on the ear point technique, held on to the vitamin tablet for 20 minutes, then discarded it. The following morning I made sure not to take the multiple vitamins which had not passed the 25 hour mark, so I took all of my other morning supplements. I was in a bit of a hurry so I didn’t fix anything for breakfast but got a piece of leftover fish from the fridge and was on my way. When I arrived at my office, all of a sudden I felt like I’d been hit by a truck. I got achy, my head pounded, and my nose bled. We had to cancel my morning appointments and I laid down for a rest. When I awaked at 11:00 AM I felt better, and as I got up I detected a strange taste in my mouth. ROSEMARY! The fish had been breaded with seasoned bread crumbs and I ingested them as the stomach meridian was cycling [7:00 – 9:00 AM].

Another twisted, bazaar, and unusual case occurred with a patient of mine. She was diagnosed by a foot doctor with Morton’s neuroma [enlarged nerve] between the 3rd and 4th metatarsals. This is a fairly common foot condition. She had the usual numbness, tingling, and occasional burning in her 2nd, 3rd, & 4th toes in both feet. She had the usual and customary non-surgical treatments and she seemed to improve. However her symtoms progressed up the ankles and legs. She was then referred to a neurologist who diagnosed Multiple Sclerosis and prescribed the appropriate drugs for this. She went to Stanford for a 2nd opinion and was again diagnosed with M.S. She tried other medications which did not help. Then, a year or so later it began affecting her hands. At this point she went to the Mayo Clinic, and again she was again diagnosed with M.S., and was given some other medications. About the time she lost the use of her thumbs, she went to my naturopath friend, Jean. After Jean completed her work-up she was surprised that the lady did not show any of the usual findings that go along with neuropathies. She then asked our patient about what was happening in her life when all of this began. As it turns out she was building her dream home at the time of a real estate slump, and she was the not so proud owner of 2 spec. houses which were not selling. All kinds of stresses were abundant in her life at the time. She recalled the first sign of the tingling in her toes when she walked bare footed across the Mexican paver’s tile in the hallway of her new home. Jean then tested her for allergy to the tile, and sure enough, she was. Within days following a clearing her symptoms began to reverse, and within a month she was totally symptom free. However, as soon as she went back to walking on the tile floor the tingling in the toes returned so, she ended up selling the house.

I surmise that the process works like this. Let’s assume that you have never been in contact with rosemary. During a time of stress and duress you eat your first dose of rosemary. From now on your mind associates rosemary with stress. And, whenever you come in contact with rosemary the body goes into a stress pattern. Depending on which meridian was initially affected symptoms will be the same each time of exposure. This is a different type of allergy than the poison oak type, whereby the substance causes the formation of antibodies which attack the allergen and thus cause an inflammatory reaction.

I have incorporated this concept into the Bowen Therapy session on a number of occasions, myself included. Believe it or not, I eliminated cravings for potatoe chips and crackers with cheese a couple of months ago. My theory is that we crave what we are allergic or sensitive to. Therefore, I held these items written on a piece of paper [after all, if the ice crystal experiments by Emoto responded to the vibratory rate of the written word, so should this], while having a session. I have only eaten, not craved, chips on 2 to 3 occasions and zero crackers and cheese for over 2 months. I used to need these on a daily basis. Now that my body has experienced this change I am going to tackle another craving in a few weeks. For patients, I have performed this for all kinds of actual food allergies as well as emotional holdings, and it almost always works. How it works is beside me, but my patients really only care that it works, not how it works. For those of you who really have to know- I have the answer. Since I wrote the above for a manuscript on a book that I am writing, I stumbled on to a book titled, “The Molecules of Emotion”, by Candace Pert, Ph.D. She points out that endorphins [our very own narcotic/tranquilizer substance], is in part, contained in the nodal points along the spine. These are the precise locations for many of the Bowen moves. My patients tell me quite often that during the day following their treatment they felt a kind of “Runner’s High”, and for the remainder of the week a sense of well-being. Dr. Pert further discovered that the endorphins are one of the mechanisms by which the immune, central, and endocrine systems network with each other. In other words, the mind-body connection, maybe. So, if you have a negative mind- body connection to a food, chemical, substance, or color that becomes a stressor and the meridian system will react to the stimulus of it. If you hold that same substance in your left hand in the presence of endorphin release that substance is now equated with a sense of well being and the old negative program is cancelled out. In some circles it is accepted that one craves what one is allergic to i.e., alcohol. So, by eliminating the allergy / sensativity, the craving goes away.

EMOTIONAL FREEDOM:
Another experience early in my new career was with a young lady who was referred to me by a foot surgeon a few miles away. He knew that I did the Bowen Therapy, and his patient was suffering with chronic back pain. She had been examined and treated by competent doctors and nothing had relieved her pain, so she wanted to try a Bowen treatment, which she had heard about since she was a Massage Therapist. He first session was uneventful. She felt some relief of the pain and was very relaxed. She returned 2 weeks later for another session. I began with the basic relaxation moves. Then, when I returned to the room following the 4-minute rest after releasing the abdominal muscles, she was quietly weeping. I asked if she was all right and if she needed a blanket. She said that she was little cold and a blanket would be nice. I said, ‘It looks like you are releasing something. Do you want to talk about it or keep it to yourself”? She said, I’ll tell you what it is. I had a caesarian section 2 years ago and it was against my will. My mother and the doctors pretty much forced me to have it and I’ve been angry ever since. I felt like I was invaded by aliens”. After the session she was completely pain free, relaxed and has been fine ever since. Apparently the abdominal muscles, which are in the front of the back, being dysfunctional caused some compensatory tightening in the back muscles. Once released, emotional holding patterns do not come back. In this instance the pain has not returned either.
When I returned to my office following a workshop on emotional clearing in Sedona,Arizona, I met with my office staff and told them all about the new therapies I had learned. After the meeting one of the young ladies who worked for me asked if she could try a session or two to try and release some emotional child abuse issues. We scheduled a late afternoon session for a week later. At that time there was no apparent releases so, we scheduled another session the following week. Right away, as I was holding her feet slightly elevating her legs off the table her feet started pointing toward each other and then her legs started swinging back and forth. After a minute she felt a pop-like sensation in her left hip (her good hip), then she started to cry. As she wept her skin got very sweaty and sticky. I had a hard time holding on to her feet as my hands kept slipping as her legs swung back and forth. After a few minutes she stopped crying and let out a sigh. When I approached her head and neck they too were all sweaty and sticky. I sensed that this was enough for this day so we went home. The next morning when she came to work she told me what had transpired that night. When she got home her entire body was sweaty and sticky so, she took a shower to wash it off. Almost immediately her right knee became quite swollen and painful (Her bad hip side) and she was very tired, and so retired very early. When she got up in the morning the knee was sore but not swollen and her right hip pain had gone away. She did not experience her usual early morning bitchies and she felt a tremendous burden of weight off of her. Her chronic hip pain has never returned and her life has been quite a bit better since this dramatic release. She told me that her father had molested her until the age of thirteen and she is sure that she was holding the emotional trauma in her hip and pelvic region. Over the years she had received cortisone injections, physical therapy, chiropractic, acupuncture, and Bowen all of which did not help for any significant period of time.

HEALTH FOR LIFE - ENHANCED PERFORMANCE: There are a number of issues which contribute to loss of performance and disharmony. Sleep dysfunction-digestive dysfunction-immune dysfunction-endocrine dysfunction-neuromuscular pains and headaches-stress-cravings-overweight-sensitivities/allergies-emotional holdings. Improvement in any or all of these areas could improve your performance and quality of life.
CRANIO SACRAL THERAPY:
John Upledger, D.O., an osteopathic physician, developed a number of therapies, which release holding patterns in many of the fascial structures. The main emphasis is on the dural fascia within the cranial vault, and the dural tube, which attaches to the sacrum. Hence, craniosacral. While assisting in surgery on a patient who had a calcific plaque on the dural tube, Dr. John had a difficult time holding the tissue still so the neurosurgeon could remove the plaque without puncturing the dura which would lead to paralysis. This movement pattern was the “craniosacral rhythm”, which is an expansion of the system as cerebrospinal fluid is pumped into the chamber, followed by a contraction of the system as the fluid is absorbed into the venous system in order to make space for replacement fluid. These expansions and contractions occur at a rate of 6 to 10 cycles per minute. With a little practice one can develop a feel for palpating these rhythms at the feet, knees, hips, ribs, shoulders, and 3 places on the head. Changes in quality, asymmetry, rate, and rhythm can be detected. This information along
with other historical and physical findings allows the practitioner to gently apply very subtle pressure to the cranial bones and other strategic places over the fascia in order to remove the holding patterns in the dural fascia, dural tube, and other fascial structures. One of the procedures is creating a “still point”, which is a method of stopping the rhythm for a brief period. This has been documented to reduce a fever by 4-5 degrees in minutes. It has also shown EEG changes when performed experimentally on subjects. Some circles think that this is all a bunch of blarney. However, I would wager that they would change their perception if they took the craniosacral class. I was quite skeptical at first. But, when I thought I felt what I felt in my hands as I practiced on my partner, and he told me what he felt, I know that something was going on inside those chambers. One day I was performing the sphenoid procedure on a patient and I noted that her left eye orbit was quite a bit lower than the right. There was also asymmetry in the soft tissue beneath the eyes. As the treatment progressed I noted that the eyes became more symmetrical and that the left orbit was even with the right. I completed the rest of the session and double - checked to see if the changes held, and they did. I told her to go in the bathroom and look in the mirror, and when she came out she said, “oh my God! My eye is straight”. She suffered a fall down a cliff when she was 13 years old and her ethmoid bone fractured and penetrated the dural fascia. Due to the leakage of cerebrospinal fluid she had emergency surgery to repair the fascia and fracture displacement. That left her with the deformity of the eye socket. When I checked her on 2 subsequent visits a little of the displacement had returned, but there was noticeable improvement overall. Nevertheless, her chronic headaches disappeared. Another experience with this therapy was with a young man who had Tourette's. As I was doing the "still point", I felt a huge pulsation in the palm of my left hand which was cradling the back of his head. It pulsated throughout a period of about 3 to 4 minutes. When he returned for another session the following week he reported that he was about 50% better with regards to his Tourette's. During the 2nd treatment the pulsation was present, but very faint. When he returned the following week for his 3rd session, the pulse was absent ans so were his Tourette's symptoms. He came back for a "tune-up", about 2 years later, and has been very well ever since.

GETTING STARTED IN THE THERAPEUTIC TOUCH BUSINESS

At first I was quite nervous about touching people, and about what my colleagues would think if they found out I was doing this non-medical woogy stuff. After all, doctors only touch you with a scalpel, needle, stethescope, probe, scope, or feel a pulse, and poke with fingers to elicit pain a response. We are more concerned with objective findings regarding cause and effect, and a technological, pharmacological, or surgical procedure to care for the effect.

The first week back to my office after learning how to perform Bowen Therapy I performed about 12 treatments for patients who were receptive to the technique. I performed them in my minor surgery room with some minor modifications to improve the ambience. There were 3 significant experiences I received from those patients. Over the next 6 months I had many more "significant experiences", which in looking back, were messages from higher spiritual sources telling me that this is my calling. I always thought that I was fulfilling my purpose, but now know that what I did previously was a step in the direction that I was supposed to be headed in. You can find Bowen Therapy on the www://bowentherapy.com. There are a number of sites that describe the procedures and a referral site www://bowendirectory.com.

My first significant experience occurred the first weekI began using the Bowen technique. Bernard had an arthritic large toe joint, which he did not want to have surgery on. He told me that he was favoring the toe and this was making his hip and back painful. His joint was red, swollen, tender, and with movement grated like sand paper [crepitus]. I told him about the Bowen treatment, which might relieve the pains in his hip and back. So, I proceded to give him a treatment. When I saw him in the waiting room Monday morning prior to appointment times I said, “Hi Bernard, how did you do following your treatment Friday"? He said, “How did it work? It changed my life. The past 3 nights have been the only full night’s sleep I’ve had in years. My back does not hurt. The pain in my hip is all but gone and look at my toe!” He commenced to remove his shoe and sock and bend the toe up and down and said, “See. Look at this.” I could not help but walk out into the waiting room and look at his toe up close. The swelling, redness and crepitus were completely resolved. There remained a little stiffness but the toe flexed at least 50% more than it did on Friday.

My 2nd significant experience also took place with Bernard. When he returned for his second session a week later he about blew me away. I asked how he was doing following his 1st Bowen treatment? He replied, "I feel like I've been let out of jail! I am stress free, pain free, and feel like floating away. I gave notice at my job Wednesday and I am going to Costa Rica to open my own restaurant. This is something that I've always dreamed of, but something was holding me back. Whatever you did last week freed me of some burdon I was holding on to". I did not know then what I know now. He was holding an emotional experience in that muscle of the leg which attaches to the big toe. When he got all cold and clammy he was releasing that emotional holding from that muscle, and once gone from the tissue, always gone. I have never seen Bernard since. I hope that he is living in love and peace in Costa Rica feeding people fine cuisine. My 3rd significant experience occurred one Monday morning, a few months following my 1st Bowen class, a patient presented with a lump the size of an almond beneath the arch on the right foot. She told me that there was no pain involved however, she was favoring it and this was causing pains in her hip and lower back. She was also concerned due to the fact that we are all suspicious when a “lump” appears. I reassured her that the lump was a classical benign plantar fibroma. Only if it grew rapidly or became painful should she consider having it removed. I informed her about the therapy that I had recently discovered and she immediately took me up on my offer. When we were all finished she arose from the table and said, “Oh my, I feel so good”. “Can I come back tomorrow for another treatment?” I told her that we should wait one week before another session and for her to make an appointment. When she returned the following week the lump had reduced to the size of a pea and she said that she couldn’t wait for another Bowen treatment. She scheduled another check on her foot and Bowen session one week later. I began the therapy prior to looking at her foot. During a point where the muscles are released on the inner thigh area she asked, “Is there any connection between that lump on my foot and my stomach?” I said, I don’t think so. Why?” She replied, “On the 1st visit when you released those muscles in the inner part of my thigh and left the room for me to rest, I immediately felt like a gush of worms crawling around in my stomach. All day long I had a queasy feeling in my stomach. And, when I got home from work that night my stomach and gallbladder pain completely disappeared. I have not had to take any of my stomach medications for the past 3 weeks. And, I flushed $200 worth of prescriptions down the toilet this morning. When I get to work I am calling the gastroenterologist who has been taking care of me the past 2 years and canceling my appointment for next month. I won’t need him any more”. I begged her not to mention my connection with any of this, as I do not want to be in any trouble with my medical colleagues. She assured me that she would not and, she said, “Look at my foot”. As I looked for the lump it was almost completely gone. It was about the size of a grain of rice! I found an old foot reflexology book and opened to the foot chart. Sure enough, the lump was right in the middle of the stomach and liver zone. I told her about that and she laughed, left the office quite happily, and has never returned. 2 years later I was studying Acupuncture and recalled the incident. When I looked at the meridian chart I saw that 2 of the 4 meridians that pass through the inner thigh and groin are the stomach and liver meridians. I could chalk it all up to coincidence or spontaneous remission. Or, I could believe that there was some kind of obstruction in that muscle tissue which was blocking the flow of energy. When the blockage was released she then felt the “Gush of worms into her stomach”, after which, her body healed itself. RETRACING-REMAPPING:
Quite often patients will experience a flare of present symptoms. Kind of like when one has a fever, the fever spikes just before it subside for good. Other times old pains come out of the closet. There can be a reoccurrence of an old problem,
which has seemingly been resolved for a number of months or years. These unpleasantries usually do not last more than a few hours or a day.

One of my patients experienced the following incredible sequence. At the completion of Tracis’ 1st therapy session I explained the above to her. When she returned the following week she said, “You won’t believe what happened. When I got home the day of the treatment my T.M.J. flared up for about 6 hours. That night I got a throbbing headache, which was gone by morning. Then my neck tightened up until noontime. Then my shoulder froze up until dinner, and then everything has been fine ever since. I have been totally pain free all week.” I replied, “That is not too unusual.” She said, “You don’t understand. That is the exact sequence that these problems began to surface 5 years ago. I had a bout with my T.M.J. for about a year. Then I began experiencing headaches 2 to 3 times a week. A year later my neck tightened and would spasm once or twice a month. Then, a year ago my shoulder froze up and has been painful to lift my arm much higher than my waist.” As the weeks went by during her postural and foot realignment process these symptoms did not return. Traci moved to the East Coast shortly after, but her mother in law came to me on occasion, so I asked her how Traci was doing with regard to all of her aches and pains? She said, “Traci says thanks. She has not had any pain at all this past year since she moved.”

The last item on my housekeeping agenda is about 4 philosophical conclusions that I have come to as a result of reading, interacting, and contemplating. I want to share these so you can better understand new concepts and ideas as you travel the trails to higher wellness.

1. PERCEPTION IS NOT ALWAYS REALITY &
REALITY IS NOT ALWAYS PERCEIVABLE.
If you stand on the sidewalk or at the ocean's edge it appears that the world is flat and standing still. If you walk off the roof you will fall because the earth is not standing still. If you fly at a 60,000 foot altitude in a U-2 plane and look down, you will see that the earth is round. In the 1800's a group of physicians claimed that there were invisable organisms which caused fever, septicemia, death, and purpura and purpuric fever at childbirth. The opposite contingincy of scientists and physicians would not buy into this notion, and caused much ado about the beliefs of the others whom they classified as heretics. However, when Leeuwenhoek invented the microscope perception changed 360 deg. Now, those naysayers could see the bacteria, fungi, spores, viruses, parasites, spirochetes, etc, because they had the tool to do so. One needs the right tool, be at the right place, and at the right time to perceive reality. As new tools evolve, reality evolves.

2.RIGHT vs WRONG.
Is the glass 1/2 full or 1/2 empty? Whichever side you choose, you are right and you are wrong. Winning the debate is not important. Consider the following: you are heading East from a lunchstop at Lovelock, Nevada. As you glance at the dashboard you see the gas gauge on the 1/2 mark. The sign on the side of the freeway says,"next services- Wells, NV. 150 miles". You could have a lengthy debate with your co-pilot about the status of the gas tank 1/2 full or 1/2 empty. But, what you should do is turn around and fill up, because 1/2 of a tank of gas will only get you around 120 miles, and you will probably run out of gas before you get to the next station. So, it's what you do with the information that counts, not your opinion about it.

3. SCIENCE MEETS ANECDOTAL &
ANECDOTAL MEETS SCIENCE.
When these data bases meet, as they often do, the truth comes forth, and there may be a day of reckoning!! How about when the microscope was invented? The science met the anecdotal and the truth came forth. How about all those people who died from infections spread by the surgeons who refused to listen to Baron Joseph Lister, and wash their hands before surgery or childbirth? The scientific data showed that radiation therapy for resistant warts was safe and effective in the circa 1950's-1960's. Then, in the early 70's patients who had undergone radiation 20 years prior, began showing up in dermatology offices with all kinds of uncurable skin problems. When the anecdotal evidence was insurmountable the practice was stopped.
The one that I like best is orthodontia. J. Wolff was an orthopedic surgeon circa 1890. He stated tha "tissues will react and adapt when stress is applied to them". Orthodontia used this anecdotal law for about 50 years until the scientific validation came forth from research done by Robert O. Becker,MD, another orthopedic surgeon and researcher. I will explain fully how the electrical potentials formed along the sides of the boney tooth socket change the shape of the bone in a posting re: bioenergy at a later time. Many pharmaceuticals fall out of favor due to anecdotal evidence while they were initially approved by scientific validation. So, I am a little impatient with health care providers who will only listen to the scientific jargon and propaganda from establishment medicine, who truely has its own agenda.

4. MINORS CAN BECOME MAJORS &
MAJORS CAN BE ONLY MINOR.
Diabetes causes elevated blood sugar [hyperglycemia]. Normal ranges between 90-110 mg. %
Many diabetics float around in the upper 100's-mid 200's. This is not a life threatening situation today, next week, next year, etc. However if this persists over many years there are irreversible effects on the eyes, neurovasculr, structures, heart, and kidneys. A minor glitch causes major events. Same with the radiation on the skin for warts I mentioned in #3. Very imperceptible changes in the keratinocytes [skin cells] which took 20 years to surface. Same with orthodontia. The braces must maintain the stress on the underlying bone for 18-36 months to accomplish the change. On the other hand, a blocked leg artery is a major catastrophe. The foot wil become cold, painful, and gangrene will set in if not attended to, which can lead to amputation and even death. After the vascular surgeon places a stint in the artery, or performs a new technological advance to restore blood flow into the foot, the pain resolves, the gangrene sloughs, and there are little residuals or long term problems. A major event which turns out minor.

I trained in an allopathic medical training program, performed an rotational internship, and a residency in a surgical specialty. I am board certified in that surgical specialty and also certified by the American Academy of Pain Management. In addition to continuing education programs applied to my specialty I have trained in the following;Bowen, Craniosacral, Counter Strain, Myofascial Release, and emotional clearing. I have also learned how to perform other services; scar therapy, removal of cravings and some addictions, and I am working on a pilot program with weight reduction. I also have planned to take other courses and training.

Therefore, I have met lots of practitioners who do a variety of methods, have read many books on natural therapies, performed 25-30,000 natural treatments on my P/C's the past 12 years-in addition to my medical connection. Because of this; my surgical case load has diminished, I do not need to inject with cortisone as often, and I've become very reluctant to prescribe pharmaceuticals.

Before I begin telling you about therapies, how they work, what they are used for, and who does them, I need to do some terminology housekeeping.

ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE -

This is the grandaddy of terms used to refer to therapies and treatments which are outside of the mainstream Western medical model. May be a little "Anti-establishment". What I like about this term is that the public understands it, and it draws those who are seeking a more natural approach to their signs, symptoms, and disabilities to those who practice it. The problem I have with the term is it means you are going to take a different alternative from something else. What if you need "Something else"? Also it could be said that you're going to do "Something else", instead of the other. What if "The other", is what you need? Why not do both? The other problem with it is that it turns on the defensive mode in those who are in the traditional Western model. There is very little likelihood of their acceptance of the method, even if there may be many good reasons to do so. I have coined a new term which may take time to catch on, but to my P/C's and myself, it makes more sense.

ADJUNCTIVE MEDICINE/THERAPY -

To me, this means you are going to do "This", in additon to, or in combination with "That". It does not pit one against the other. As I use this approach with my P/C's they often comment, "I only wish that my primary care doctor would use this approach". Another term has surfaced recently.

INTEGRATIVE MEDICINE -

This does not tell you much. Is it integrating prescription medicine with over the counter medicine? Is it integrating injectables with systemic and topical medicines? Is it Eastern and Western?. What is the user of this term integrating?

ANTI AGING -

Probably oxymoron. We can't stop the aging process. We can slow it down or reduce premature aging and we can ease the natural aging process "Age gracefully". That, in part, is what my natural and holistic program is about as you will see later.

COMPLIMENTARY -

Oxymoron. I frequently see P/C's who have been treated and overtreated by the medical establishment by way of the "Good Buddy" system. Especially prevalent BMC [before managed care]. I have witnessed countless P/C's passed around from specialist to specialist for long periods of time, all kinds of tests, drugs, surgeries, and studies and then the person finally seeks treatment from a natural health practitioner out of the HMO [health maintenance options] pool, and quite often are cured within a few treatments. It makes me wonder who is primary and who is complimentary? How can the medical establishment point their fingers at the natural health practitioner and brand he or she a charlatan or quack, when they, establishment medicine, can not claim to "Cure" anything. It is against the law to cure. I have a great psychiatrist story. There is a psychiatrist who has a website http//quackwatch. He was all over the people who support electro-magnatism for health purposes. Not long ago, I had a patient in for a surgical consult from referral from a family practitioner. I saw in his chart that he was retired. I asked, "What work are you retired from"? He replied, "I'm in my 2nd retirement. I was first a psychiatrist. But, I could never really help any of my patients get well or anything from all the talking we did, nor the drugs I had them on. So, I quit and got my contractor's license. When I built people a nice home and turned over the keys to the front door, they were always so happy and that gave me many a sense of accomplishments, which I never received as a medical doctor".

HOLISTIC -

Many people associate holistic with alternative medicine. Also, many people think of holistic as a far out bunch of woogy. Back in the 1970's & 1980's those practitioners who called themselves holistic were labeled quacks. I feel that this impression is still present, especially in establishmen medicine. However, it really is a pretty good term, because we are an integrated bunch of systems from top to bottom, to inside out. From the bioelectrical, biochemical, and cellular levels to the neurological, circulatory, digestive, elimination. endocrine, immune systems which are all part and parcel of the body-mind-spirit. It make most sense to take care of the whole rather than the bits and pieces!!

PALLIATIVE MEDICINE -

Palliate: "To reduce the violence of a disease-to moderate the intensity-to cover by excuses and apologies". I really have to keep containment of myself with this one. One of my P/C's, an R.N. went to a 4 day conference on "Palliative Medicine" in New Orleans just before it flooded. May be some kind of omen. To think that our guardian doctors are meeting and planning on methods to merely reduce your symptoms!! Never mind what is at the root of your problem, just keep you at ease and lessen the burdon. Now, my realistic side says that this brand of medicine is for the incurable, long term illness that no medical or alternative medical approaches will successfuly treat. But, when you think about it, that is at the core of establishment medicine. If you and I were totally well, experiencing highest wellness and fitness- we would not be experiencing signs, symptoms, or disabilities. That means we would not need to take part in the medical system other than an annual physical and blood work. Medicine is a trillion dollar a year industry and it depends on illness not wellness.

My pen name is Marcus Zenus-Dr. X. Due to the fact that I am a licensed health care provider, providing information and treatments which are outside the box, I must stay under the radar of the medical establishment, as well as Corporate America. I spend 50% of my days doing mainstream Western medicine, and the other 50% performing "adjunctive natural & holistic therapies"-aka Alternative Medicine.

I have discovered many interesting, challenging, and enlightening tidbits over the past 12 years of study and practice with my patient/clients [P/C's]. This site is for public awareness and education only.
